We are so honored to have helped these survivors. However, there are many more not being reached. It is estimated that only 27% of women and 13.5% of men report physical assault by an intimate partner to law enforcement. Only 28% of sexual assault victims report the incident to police.
Of both wyoming women and men have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner.
Nationwide, nearly 2 million women are raped a year. Over 7 million women and men are stalked every year. About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced physical violence from a partner.
Crimes like sexual assault, stalking, trafficking, domestic violence, and other abuses are complex and, therefore, hard to understand. Often it is easier to say to ourselves, "it doesn't happen here." Sadly, these crimes are extremely common not only across the nation but also within Converse County. While CHC is here to assist survivors as they heal from the trauma they experienced, it takes all of us as a society to break the cycle of violence and myths that fuel these crimes.
